A Labor court stops the swearing in of NLC chairman
A Labor court in Nairobi has temporarily stopped the swearing in of Chairman and eight other members of the National Land Commission by the Chief Justice. That in meantime in order not to prejudice any of the parties the court will sua sponte that the appointees not be sworn in pending hearing and appearance before Justice Wasilwa on 7th October states the court order.
Yesterday His Excellency president Uhuru Kenyatta in a special gazette notice appointed the nine member team to be chaired by Gerishom Otachi for a non-renewable six year term starting on the October 2nd this year.
The National Land Committee that was appointed included former Isiolo Women Rep Tiya Galgalo, former Nyeri town Member of Parliament Esther Murugi, former minister Kazungu Kambi,James Tuitoek who is a former Egerton University Vice-Chancellor,Alister Mutugi,Hubbie Hussein, Gertrude Nguku and Regilnald Okumu,
Activist Okiya Omtatah argued that the vetting and approval process of the NLC members by the parliament was a total sham
